Why We Chose an Audio Play
Each year, we create one or two major projects with our teenage students. In the past, these have included short films and duologues. This winter, we’re exploring the world of audio drama.
Filming can be difficult during the colder months. The days are short, the students are in school, and natural light is limited. An audio play lets us keep creating while focusing on voice acting, character development, and storytelling. It’s also a brilliant way for students to learn how powerful performance through sound alone can be.
Professional Studio Experience
We’re in the fortunate position to offer our students access to a professional audio studio right here in Yorkshire. It’s fully equipped with the latest sound recording technology. Their performances will sound crisp and clear, with that warm acoustic tone you hear in professional productions.
This hands-on experience gives our students real insight into what happens in a recording session. It also helps them sound confident, polished, and ready for future opportunities in acting or voice work.
Creative Collaboration in Action
Last week at our South Milford classes, we held a lively brainstorming session. The students came up with fantastic ideas—creating character breakdowns, inventing storylines, and exploring new personalities. Their creativity and enthusiasm were inspiring.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll begin writing and shaping the scripts. After that, we’ll record the play in our studio. It’s a great chance for our young actors to work together, share ideas, and bring their characters to life.
Building Skills That Last
This acting project helps students grow in confidence and expressiveness. It also strengthens their vocal performance, speech clarity, and teamwork—skills that benefit both stage and screen actors.
