Points to consider in preparing and recording a self-tape audition: Following these self-tape instructions will help you with your audition process. They are what casting directors expect to see in their inboxes.

1. Read the Audition Material

   : Carefully review the audition script, sides, or scenes you’ve been provided. Understand the character, context, and any specific requirements.

2. Setup and Location

   :

   • Choose a well-lit location with good natural or artificial lighting.
   • Ensure the background is clean, uncluttered, and appropriate for the scene.
   • Set up your camera or smartphone on a stable surface, preferably at eye level.

4. Frame and Composition

   • Position yourself in the center of the frame with enough headroom and space around you.

5. Wardrobe and Makeup

   • Keep makeup natural and suitable for the role.

6. Performance

   :

   • Memorise your lines thoroughly and practice your delivery.
   • Focus on your character’s objectives, emotions, and relationships within the scene.
   • Show a range of emotions and engage with the imaginary circumstances.

7. Eye Line

   :

   • Place a reader or use an off-camera point of reference to maintain consistent eye contact.
   • Avoid looking directly into the camera unless instructed otherwise.

8. Slate

   :

   • Begin with a slate that includes your name, the role you’re auditioning for, and your agency (if applicable).

9. Multiple Takes

   :

   • Record multiple takes, experimenting with different interpretations and emotions.
   • Choose the best take for submission.

10. File Format and Naming

    :

    • Save your video file in the format specified by the casting director.
    • Name the file in a clear and organised manner, including your name and the character/production.
    • Always film in landscape. Industry requirement.

11. Size and Length

    :

    • Ensure the file size and video length meet the submission requirements.
    • Typically, self-tapes should not exceed 2-3 minutes.

12. Editing

    :

    • Only make minor edits if necessary (e.g., trimming the beginning and end, adjusting brightness).
    • Avoid adding special effects or altering your performance significantly.

13. Submission Instructions

    • Follow the submission guidelines provided by the casting director or agency.
    • Send your self-tape to the designated email address, agent or online platform.

14. Deadline

    :

    • Submit your self-tape well before the deadline to ensure it reaches the casting team on time.

15. Backup Copy
